Less Is Best
There is an old adage that says “Less Is Best” and when it comes to building your new website, I must say that I agree wholeheartedly. One of the first mistakes I made when I first started building websites was wanting to add those “cool” modules and programs that I came across. And yes there are many really great scripts and programs that can enhance your site.
The problem is I wanted to use them all at the same time! Of course even a novice can already see the fallacy in this which is your site is always too slow to load and often times one script will create conflicts with another, preventing the browser from even loading it correctly.
My advice for those just starting to design their website is to look around. Surf the internet and find a few sites that you like and ask yourself – “What is it about this site that I like?” Chances are the load time was fast, the pages displayed properly and images were correctly sized to the content.
You can find a great many sources for suggestions on web design by doing a Google search. Browse some of these sites and pick up a few suggestions then try out a few of them.
Remember when it comes to your website – Less really can be Best.
