Joomla “vs” WordPress

Joomla “vs” WordPress

Both Joomla and WordPress are excellent. Which should you choose ? That would depend on what you intend to do with your site. Each of these Content Management Systems (CMS) offer the end user a great many options but both also have their drawbacks.

Joomla offers much more to the business owner who will be providing shopping capabilities to their guest. There are only a couple of options even available right now with WordPress for a shopping cart and I have not been impressed with any aspect of them. Joomla on the other hand has VirtueMart . I have used this shopping cart for several of the sites we have built and find it is an excellent cart for almost any business.

The major drawback to Joomla right now is the spammers and scammers. Make no mistake. Joomla is a very popular system and deservedly so. There are many great developers constantly developing free components and modules that make life so much easier using this system. But then this strength is also its major weakness. While most of the components developed for the Joomla System are great, there are always those who will develop modules or components that contain spyware or other tracking codes. This creates a lot of spam to your site.

WordPress has developed into a CMS but has stayed true to its concept of a blog. This may the best choice for those who want to get their business online but do not need a shopping cart integrated into the system. Learning to use WordPress is fairly easy and anyone can have a site up within a few hours.

I have used both systems and in my opinion both are excellent choices. I would suggest Joomla for those who need a full blown shopping cart integrated into their site and WordPress for those sites where a shopping cart is not required.

The Megaphone Network uses WordPress for their blogging solutions.
