One of the most popular things you will find when you go looking for your Web Hosting Company is advertisements claiming “unlimited bandwidth” or “unlimited space”. Neither are true. In any case where your account may not have a cap on either of these, your use would be halted by CPU usage.

This is something you will not find a lot of hosts talking about, CPU usage. That’s because there is really not a lot of ways to measure it. A lot of things can affect the amount of CPU usage your site does use. A poorly written script is often times the culprit if your site is not heavily visited. Music download sites consume a lot of resources and CPU’s. That is why many companies will not host an MP3 site and we are no exception.

However, we are not promoting “unlimited” anything either. And that is often times where hosting companies can mislead their potential client. You think you’re buying everything you need to put whatever you want on your site. It is only after you sign up and spend all the time building your site and getting traffic to it that it gets shut down or you’re asked to “upgrade” to a larger server and of course pay more money.

Be careful when making a decision on your hosting provider. It’s a pain to switch once you have your site up and running. That is not the time to find out that you’ll never have a chance to use “unlimited” storage or bandwidth because you’re using too many CPU’s.
