Building Your Site In Joomla

By admin • Sep 27th, 2008 • Category: Technology

In previous blogs we have discussed the difference in using a blogging platform such as WordPress to using a CMS such as Joomla. Both systems are excellent and we provide Joomla hosting for our business plan if that is your choice.  If you’re building a complete site that requires such features as a shopping cart or you need to display a lot of graphics or images, then Joomla may very well be the better choice for you.

Currently we recommend using versions up to 1.5+ simply because there are many bugs that will need to be worked out of any new release and going with a proven one can save you a lot of time and frustration.

Using Joomla does take a little reading and understanding the basic principles of the system and how components and modules work. However the effort is well worth the time and you will soon be able to administer your site without any problems.

Setting the correct permissions on your files and directories is essential. The wrong permission setting can mean you will never be able to get a component working or displaying correctly. Be sure and take the time to read the document file that comes with your installation package.

For those who host their site on The Megaphone Network we do provide free Joomla installation if required and will help you every step of the way until you have your site online and looking the way you want.
